The January 12th 2010 earthquake destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes in Haiti.  300,000 people are still trying to survive in tents in Port-au-Prince.  80,000 earthquake refugees have come to Jeremie looking for shelter to survive.  Most of them are women with children.  The proposed homes will have a living room and two bedrooms.

Amount Needed per Classroom:  $485.00
The primary schools in Jeremie have received computers from Food for the Poor. The schools need electricity to provide the needed power to run these computers. With solar panels and batteries, the schools will have “free” electricity for 20-30 years with no need for gasoline.

Raymond is one of the poorest areas in all of Haiti.  With microfinance loans, women in small groups are able to start businesses selling rice, beans, corn, etc. They will be able to provide for their families.

Location:  A Primary School in Jeremie
Total Amount Needed:  $3,600.00
Amount Needed per Student for a Month:  $30.00
If sponsoring a student for a full year ($360.00) you will receive regular updates on the student’s progress.

Many students are not able to attend school because their parents cannot afford the cost of the uniform and shoes.  They cannot afford the $5 or $10 monthly cost of going to school. And without a nutritious meal a student has a difficult time paying attention and learning in the classroom.
